Why did my test email land in spam?

Last updated: March 25, 2026

Sending test emails to your own domain is not a reliable way to assess deliverability. Email providers, like Google, may flag these emails as phishing because the sending domain resembles your primary domain. These test results are not representative of actual email deliverability.

  1. Spam placement is often influenced by factors such as email content, recipient restrictions, and domain health. If you suspect a specific email sequence is underperforming or landing in spam, collaborate with your team and assigned PGS to review the email copy. Use spam-checking tools to identify and remove flagged keywords.

  2. Monitor bounce rates, reply rates, and open rates weekly to identify any significant drops.

Use these benchmarks to assess your performance:

    • Open Rates: 40-60% is healthy, 50-70% is strong (Unify customers typically see 60%+)

    • Reply Rates: ~1% positive reply rate is standard, 2-3% total reply rate is good, 3-4% is excellent

    • Click Rates: 3-7% is typical, 8-10% is top-tier
