How to export sequence participants to CSV in Unify
Last updated: April 29, 2026
You can export a CSV file containing all contacts enrolled in a specific sequence using the Audience Builder. This allows you to extract participant data for use in external systems, reporting, or further analysis.
Steps to Export Sequence Participants
Navigate to the Audience Builder in your Unify dashboard
Ensure your audience name does not contain special characters like pipes (|) or dashes (-), especially if you're using Windows. These characters can cause CSV exports to fail, resulting in either empty zip files or the export getting stuck on 'Exporting' with infinite loading. Rename the audience if needed before proceeding with the export.
Create a new audience with the condition "Enrolled in" and select your specific sequence
Optionally, add "Most Recent Sequence Status" condition to filter by completion status (e.g., Completed, Completed: Replied).
If you need to filter by enrollment date, set a timeframe using "X days ago"
Before exporting, toggle exclusions off at the bottom of the Audience Builder to include all enrolled contacts.
Once the audience is created, click the "Export to CSV" or "Export as CSV" button located in the top right corner of the audience view
Note: CSV exports include a predefined set of columns and you cannot currently specify which columns to include. Some fields like "record owner" may not be included in the export by default.
The exported CSV file will contain all contacts currently enrolled in your selected sequence, with all filtering rules and exclusions already applied.
Missing Completion Date: The CSV export does not currently include a "Completed Date" column showing when participants finished the sequence. This can be important for tracking sequence performance and timing analysis.
Additional Export Options
This export functionality works for any audience you create, not just those filtered by sequence enrollment. You can extract contact lists based on various engagement criteria, enrollment status, or other audience conditions you've configured.
Advanced Workarounds for CSV Export Limitations
Technical Data Matching Solutions
When you need record owner information that's missing from CSV exports, you can match the exported contact data with your CRM records using a VLOOKUP or similar data matching technique. This approach allows you to combine Unify's sequence participant data with complete CRM field sets for comprehensive analysis.
Integrated CRM Reporting Alternative
Sequence activity data is written back to your CRM, allowing you to build reports around sequence completion and company engagement directly in your CRM system. This provides a more integrated approach to tracking sequence outcomes without relying on CSV exports and eliminates the need for manual data matching.
Automated Task Assignment via Plays
For workflows requiring record owner assignment, consider using plays within Unify to automatically trigger tasks for record owners rather than exporting to CSV. This approach eliminates the need for manual CSV distribution and ensures immediate task assignment, making it particularly effective for distributing non‑responsive contacts to sales teams for manual follow‑up.
If you need specific data fields that aren't included in the standard CSV export (such as record owner information), you can work around this limitation by creating separate audiences based on the criteria you need. For example, create individual audiences filtered by account owner, then export each separately to maintain the data segmentation you require.
Common Use Cases
Exporting sequence participant data is particularly useful for:
Creating reports and analytics outside of Unify
Integrating contact data with CRM systems or marketing automation tools
Performing advanced data analysis or segmentation
Sharing filtered contact lists with team members or external partners
Getting clean participant data post-exclusions for use in other systems
Completed Enrollment Follow-up: Extracting completed enrollments for manual follow-up or integration with external dialers.
The exported data represents the final state of participants after all your filtering rules have been applied, ensuring you receive clean, actionable data for your downstream processes.
