How do sequential enrollments work in Loop Nodes?

Last updated: March 2, 2026

Context

When running outbound campaigns, you may want to target multiple personas at a company sequentially (one after another) rather than all at once. For example, you might want to contact founders first, wait for a response, and only then reach out to DevRel contacts if there's no engagement.

Answer

The Loop functionality in Plays enrolls contacts in parallel, not sequentially. This means all contacts will be enrolled simultaneously, even if there are delays within the loop.

To target different personas sequentially, you'll need to:

  1. Create separate Plays for each persona group (e.g., one for founders, one for DevRel)

  2. Launch these Plays manually in sequence, waiting for the previous Play to complete before launching the next one

  3. Use the "Maximum enrollments per persona" setting in Play configuration to ensure only one contact per persona type is enrolled

Important limitations to note:

  • Delays within a loop do not create sequential enrollments - all contacts will still be enrolled in parallel

  • The system cannot automatically trigger the next Play based on lack of engagement

  • Start with 2-4 contacts per company as a baseline; avoid exceeding approximately 7 total contacts per company to maintain good email deliverability
