How do Intent Levels work?

Last updated: March 2, 2026

Context

Intent levels help identify and categorize website visitors based on their engagement level and likelihood to convert. Understanding how intent levels are calculated and what they mean can help prioritize which visitors to engage with.

Answer

Intent levels are automatically calculated using an algorithm that analyzes visitor behavior on your website. The system generates an intent score from 0-100 and categorizes visitors into three levels:

  • High Intent: Visitors showing the strongest engagement signals

  • Medium Intent: Visitors with moderate engagement levels

  • Low Intent: Visitors with minimal engagement

The intent score is calculated based on several factors including:

  • Session length

  • Number of visits

  • Pages visited

  • Number of unique visitors from the same company

This scoring system helps you prioritize your website traffic and focus on visitors most likely to convert. You can use intent levels to create targeted engagement strategies for different visitor segments.

Note: When creating Plays or filters, it's recommended to use specific behavioral parameters (such as number of visits per day, specific web pages visited, or session length) rather than filtering by high/medium/low intent categories. Intent scoring is not customizable, so using specific parameters gives you more control over targeting the exact visitor behaviors that matter most to your business.
