How to Limit Who Gets Enrolled in a Play Within a Specific Time Window
Last updated: March 9, 2026
Use case: You have a play running against a large list but only want emails to go out during a specific time period (e.g., this week and next), and you want to avoid over-sending before an upcoming event.
Step 1: Check How Many Companies Are Actually in the Play
Before making changes, check the actual size of your active play — it may be smaller than you think. In the play builder, look at the number of companies currently enrolled and how many have already been prospected and sequenced. This will tell you how urgent the limiting is.
Step 2: Limit the Send Window Using a Custom Send Schedule
To ensure emails only go out during the dates you want:
Go to the sequence attached to your play
Open Send Schedule settings
Set allowed send days and hours to match your window
Add skip dates for any days after your event when you don't want sends to go out
Anything queued outside those windows will wait — it won't send until the next allowed window opens.
Step 3: Pause the Play and Sequence After Your Window Ends
The simplest way to stop all sends after a hard deadline (e.g., end of next week) is to pause both the play and the sequence at that time.
Pausing the play stops new enrollments from being added
Pausing the sequence stops any queued emails from going out
You can resume both later if needed. No data is lost.
Step 4 (Optional): Batch the Launch if the List Is Large
If you have a large list (~1,000+ companies) and a tight timeline, consider batching:
Launch the play on a subset first (e.g., your highest-priority segment)
Add more companies in waves as capacity allows
This avoids backlogs from per-mailbox daily send caps
Quick Summary
Goal | Action |
Only send emails this week + next | Set a custom send schedule with an end date / skip dates |
Hard stop after the event | Pause the play + sequence manually |
Avoid hitting everyone at once | Batch the launch in waves |
Limit contacts per company | Set max prospects per company in the play node |
