How are email sending credits calculated in Unify?
Last updated: May 5, 2026
Context
When using Unify to send email sequences, customers may be concerned about how credits are consumed, particularly when uploading their own contact lists with email addresses versus using Unify's enrichment features.
Answer
Credits in Unify are only consumed for data enrichment services, not for sending emails. Here's how it works:
Data Enrichment:
Credits are only used when Unify finds new contact data
Email enrichment costs 2 credits per contact
Phone enrichment costs 4 credits per contact
Example: If Unify finds 5 new contacts and enriches them with email addresses, that consumes 10 credits (5 contacts × 2 credits). If you also enrich those same contacts with phone numbers, that would consume an additional 20 credits (5 contacts × 4 credits)
Phone enrichment costs 4 credits per contact
For new contacts in plays: Enable "Enrich phone number" in the prospecting node of the play to automatically enrich contacts as they enter (charges 4 credits per person)
For existing contacts already in an audience: Use the export and re-import workflow:
Export the audience as CSV
Re-upload the CSV via People and toggle on "Enrich phone numbers" (requires First Name, Last Name, and Company Domain)
The enriched contacts will then be available for your play
Important: Enrichment must occur before or during contact enrollment in a sequence. Changing enrichment settings won't retroactively update contacts already enrolled. If you need to enrich contacts already in a sequence, you must: (1) export the contacts to CSV using Audience Builder, (2) re-upload the CSV with enrichment enabled, (3) re-enroll them in the sequence.
Email Sending:
Sending emails does not consume any credits
Unify-provided mailboxes: Limited to 25 emails per mailbox per day for automated sequence emails. Manual one‑off emails sent directly from contact records are exempt from this limit.
Customer-owned mailboxes: Can be increased up to 65 emails per day by contacting support. Note that primary domain mailboxes cannot have additional mailboxes added - you can only increase the sending limit on the existing primary domain mailbox.
Using existing contact data from your own uploads, Hubspot integration, or previously enriched contacts does not consume additional credits
Note: To increase sending capacity, you have two options: (1) add more mailboxes to your account, or (2) contact support to raise the limit on your customer-owned mailboxes up to 65 sends per day. Unify-provided mailboxes are capped at 25 sends per day for deliverability reasons and cannot be increased. For example, 10 Unify-provided mailboxes can send a total of 250 emails per day (25 emails × 10 mailboxes), or you can increase customer-owned mailboxes individually up to 65 emails per day each.
Note: The 25‑email‑per‑day limit for Unify‑provided mailboxes operates on a rolling 24‑hour window per mailbox, not a midnight reset. For example, if a mailbox sent 20 emails between 2–5 pm yesterday, those 20 slots become available again between 2–5 pm today, which can cause natural daily fluctuations in total send volume.
