How to upload and use company lists in Unify

Last updated: March 24, 2026

You can upload company lists to Unify to create targeted outbound campaigns. Here's how to properly format and upload your lists.

Required CSV format

Your CSV file should include these columns:

  • Company Name - The full company name

  • Company Domain - The company's website domain (without https://)

Important: The domain should be formatted as unifygtm.com or www.unifygtm.com, not https://www.unifygtm.com

You can also add a third column like "Status" with values such as "CPG" or other identifiers to help categorize your companies.

How to upload your list

  1. Navigate to the Companies tab in your Unify dashboard

  2. Upload your CSV file

  3. The companies will be processed and added to your account

Additional Technical Details for Company List Uploads

Upload Constraints and Processing Expectations

When uploading company lists to Unify, be aware of these technical limitations and processing details:

  • Upload limits: CSV files can contain up to 25,000 rows per upload. For larger lists, you'll need to split them into multiple files.

  • Processing time: After uploading your CSV file, processing typically takes 5-10 minutes. If your list appears empty immediately after uploading, refresh the page to see the processed results.

Troubleshooting Upload Issues

If you encounter problems during the upload process:

  • Verify your CSV doesn't exceed the 25,000 row limit

  • Wait the full processing time (5-10 minutes) before assuming there's an issue

  • Try refreshing the page if your uploaded list doesn't appear immediately

Creating a play from your uploaded list

Once your list is uploaded, you can create a play to prospect contacts at these companies:

  1. Go to the play builder

  2. Set up your trigger by clicking "Record matches criteria"

  3. Add a condition and select "Lists" from the dropdown

  4. Choose your uploaded list

  5. Understanding count discrepancies: You may notice that the play trigger preview shows fewer records than your original uploaded list. This is expected behavior and typically occurs due to:

    • Global exclusions: Contacts filtered out by your exclusion settings (you can temporarily toggle exclusions off in the trigger preview to verify)

    • Enrollment protections: People who are opted out, already in another active sequence, have hit daily caps, or fail sequence‑specific rules

    • Additional filters: If your trigger uses criteria beyond "exists in list," only records meeting all conditions will appear in the preview

To investigate specific enrollment issues, check the "Not Enrolled" reasons in your Play's Metrics tab.

  6. Ensure any subsequent actions in your play are compatible with Company records, as this trigger outputs Companies. Actions that require Person records (like certain AI qualifications or sequence enrollments) will need a "Prospect for new People" action first to convert Companies to People.

  7. Configure your prospecting and sequence settings

Alternative trigger method: Instead of using "Record matches criteria" with a list condition, you can create an Audience with the filter "exists in list" and select your uploaded list, then use "Record enters an Audience" as your play trigger. Both approaches will correctly target your uploaded companies.

Alternative: Create a play directly from a list

You can also create a new play directly from your uploaded list by:

  1. Going to your uploaded list

  2. Clicking "New Play"

  3. Following the play setup process

Tips for better results

  • Use tools like ChatGPT to help format external lists (like "Best Places to Work" lists) into the proper CSV format with company names and domains

  • Consider breaking large lists into smaller, more manageable segments to avoid spending too many credits at once

  • Your uploaded lists will respect your exclusion settings, so you won't accidentally prospect companies you've marked as excluded
