Troubleshooting ICP Agent Qualification Issues
Last updated: March 25, 2026
If your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) agent is qualifying companies that don't match your criteria or behaving inconsistently, here are the steps to diagnose and fix the issue.
Understanding Agent Qualification Results
When a company is qualified or disqualified, you can review the agent's reasoning by examining the qualification results panel. Look for:
The Reflect section - shows the agent's analysis and reasoning
The Response section - shows the final True/False answer
Individual criteria responses - shows how each qualification question was answered
Common Issues and Solutions
Agent Logic Inconsistencies
If the agent correctly identifies that a company fails your criteria in the reflection but still marks it as "True," this indicates a system bug that has been addressed. Recent fixes have resolved performance challenges where non-ICP companies were incorrectly qualified despite the agent's proper analysis.
Refining Your Agent Prompts
To improve targeting accuracy:
Make requirements explicit: Ensure your prompt clearly states that ALL criteria must be met for qualification
Add specific exclusions: Include industries, company types, or characteristics you want to exclude (e.g., "exclude government organizations, universities, or non-profit entities")
Use simple True/False questions: Keep qualification questions straightforward and put detailed ICP definitions in the Guidance section
Test thoroughly: Use the agent test UI to verify results with known good and bad fit companies
Filtering and Targeting Improvements
Beyond agent prompts, you can refine targeting through:
New Hire Tracking filters: Navigate to Settings → Track → New Hires and apply filters for industry, company size, location, and job titles
Audience Builder: Create audiences with refined filters to automate your plays
Exclusion lists: Add companies or people to exclusion lists and ensure the "Exclude from Sequences" toggle is enabled
Monitoring and Iteration
After making changes:
Monitor qualification results for a few days to ensure improvements
Set up notifications to catch misqualified companies early
Continue to iterate on your agent prompts based on new edge cases
Remember that changes to exclusions can take 30-45 minutes to propagate
If you continue to see inconsistent behavior after implementing these fixes, the issue may be related to system performance problems that require vendor support to resolve.
