Why isn't my Play finding any prospects?

Last updated: June 17, 2026

If your audience is healthy but the Prospect node returns "None found" or zero results, the issue is in the prospecting configuration. Work through these in order.

1. Open the Prospect node's Logs tab

The Logs tab shows the exact inputs the node received and the reason each candidate was rejected. This is the fastest path to the root cause.

2. Personas may be too narrow

Persona matching in Unify is deterministic, not fuzzy. The match algorithm:

  • Splits each candidate's title into words.

  • Requires the persona to contain all words of the candidate title (case-insensitive, whole-word match).

So a persona of "Head of AI" will match "Head of AI Partnerships" (all three words present), but will not match "AI Lead" (missing "Head," "of").

To improve persona coverage:

  • Add separate entries for variations, not punctuation. "Chief Technology Officer (CTO)" should be two entries: Chief Technology Officer and CTO.

  • Aim for 60+ title variations per persona for specialized roles.

  • Include common abbreviations and short forms.

3. Check the "Include existing People" setting

If this setting is disabled, the prospecting node only finds new contacts not already in Unify or your CRM. Enable it if you want existing CRM contacts to count.

4. Try Waterfall Prospecting

If volume is consistently low:

  • Standard: uses existing data in your CRM.

  • Waterfall: queries external data providers for the freshest data, regardless of CRM coverage.

Waterfall mode often materially improves volume for specialized roles or under-covered segments.

5. Data coverage limits

Some companies — particularly smaller ones, or ones with non-standard role naming — simply have limited coverage in our data providers. This is a real ceiling, not a configuration issue. For these accounts, you may need to source contacts directly.

Still stuck?

If you've worked through personas, the Logs tab, and "Include existing People" and still see zero, contact support ( 🎫 / @Unify Support) with:

  • The Play link.

  • A specific company you'd expect to be prospected, with the expected title and person.

  • A screenshot of the Prospect node Logs tab.
