Email verification on Unify

Last updated: April 30, 2026

Does Unify verify all email addresses before sending?
Yes, Unify verifies all email addresses before sending, regardless of their source. This includes:

  • Emails sourced from your CRM email fields

  • New email addresses found by Unify

When verification flags an email address as invalid or high risk, Unify will automatically "bounce stop" the send before it is sent and end the sequence for that contact to protect your deliverability.

If an email is sent but then returned by the recipient's mail server (due to invalid address, mailbox full, or domain issues), it will be marked as "Bounced" and the contact will be automatically removed from the sequence.

Email verification helps to:

  • Reduce bounce rates

  • Maintain a good sender reputation

  • Ensure your messages reach the intended recipients

Use case example

This feature is particularly useful when reaching out to contacts from older lists, such as closed-lost opportunities. Even if some contacts have left their companies or changed roles, Unify's email verification process will help prevent sending to invalid addresses.

Note: While email verification significantly reduces the risk of bounces, it cannot guarantee 100% delivery, as email addresses can become invalid at any time. When an email does bounce, Unify automatically removes the prospect from the sequence – no manual action is required on your end.

Understanding bounce statuses

Bounce stopped: Unify prevented the email from being sent because verification providers flagged the address as invalid or high-risk. This protects your sender reputation by stopping the send before it occurs.

Configuring bounce stopped settings: You can adjust how aggressively bounce stopped is applied by going to Settings → Sequences → Rulesets. Open your active ruleset and modify the bounce-stop validation settings as needed, then save and apply the ruleset to your sequence(s).

Bounced: The email was actually sent, but the recipient's mail server returned it as undeliverable.

Note: Verification providers may flag entire domains or patterns as invalid or high-risk, which can result in multiple contacts at the same company being bounce stopped. This is normal behavior when domains have strict security or anti-spam settings.

What you can do:

  • For bounce stopped emails: These addresses are flagged as invalid or high-risk, so we recommend not attempting to send to them. Consider reviewing your data sources and list quality. If you need to adjust how aggressively bounce stopped is applied, you can modify your bounce-stop validation settings in Settings → Sequences → Rulesets.

  • For bounced emails: Verify the address with the contact or your data provider, then re-enroll using a corrected email if available. If you're seeing many bounces from verified addresses, review your email content, sending volume, and DNS settings with your IT team.
