Uploading custom fields in CSV

Can I upload custom fields in a CSV?

We recommend uploading custom fields in your CRM instead of directly in a CSV. If these custom fields will be referenced in the audience filters, smart snippets, or sequence copy, we can pull them from your CRM directly?

When should I use a custom field in a CSV?

When uploading CSVs, you can organize your data by splitting CSVs based on different criteria (like pages visited) and labeling them as audience names.

  • For companies, you only need the company name and domain.

  • For people, you need first name, last name, company name, and email – if no email is available, Unify can enrich that for you.

  • Column headers don’t need specific naming conventions; you can map them to Unify fields during the upload process.

Importing leads from external sources: CSV upload is currently the recommended method for importing leads from external lead generation tools (like RB2B) when direct API integration isn't available. This allows you to regularly import new leads without routing them through your CRM first.

You can use the 'Status' field when uploading a set of contacts or companies for exclusions or champion tracking. For exclusions:

  1. Upload your CSV under People/Companies and map a column to Status (e.g., value = "Exclude")

  2. Go to Settings → Exclusions and create a new exclusion based on status = exclude

Once saved, everyone in the uploaded CSV will be excluded.

For champion tracking, follow the same process but set Status = 'Champion', then reference the status filter in the audience builder.
