Will Unify impact website performance?

Last updated: March 13, 2025

Context

When configuring a Unify Intent Client to track website events, users may have concerns about the potential impact of the website tag on site performance.

Answer

Unify's JavaScript is loaded asynchronously on your website. This means that it is loaded in parallel while the browser continues to parse and display the rest of your website.

The script is executed on the websites of all Unify's customers, which together receive tens of millions of unique website visitors every month. As a result, when someone visits your website, there is a high likelihood that the browser has already downloaded and cached the script from another site. If cached, the script will load almost instantly.

If the script is not cached by the browser, it will be retrieved from a highly available CDN. Typically, it will already be cached at the CDN level, as updates to the script are infrequent and deliberate.

The script, when minified and gzipped, is extremely lightweight at 17.2kB. This ensures rapid loading even under suboptimal conditions. For comparison, this is approximately 20% of the size of jQuery, a widely used library for web development.
