Setting up a public vs. private channel or Slack notifications
Last updated: April 30, 2026
Do channels connected to receive Slack notifications from Unify need to be public?
Yes, the channel must be set to public. Our integration requires the ability to post messages, which is only possible for public channels or DMs in Slack. Private channels are not supported, even if the Unify app has been added to the private channel.
Alternatively, you can send notifications as direct messages (DMs) to specific users instead of using a channel.
Can I change the channel to private after setting up the initial integration?
If you make the Slack channel private after setting up the integration, the notifications will stop working. The channel needs to remain public for the integration to continue sending alerts and notifications.
